Violence is a main theme of Macbeth. We see violence throughout the entire play, from Act 1 to the very last scene. The play starts with a gory battle and the murder of men, women, and children. It ends with the suicide of Lady Macbeth and the beheading of Macbeth. The rest of the play contains murder, war, betrayal, and violence. In one scene, Macbeth says a famous quote about how every violent act leads to another violent act: “blood will to blood." This quote is foreshadowing the war that takes place at the end of the play. More violence is inevitable after Macbeth commits the first act of violence.
